Just arrived in our Resources section is an article about Down's Syndrome and employment. Several years ago the Down's Syndrome Association launched WorkFit, an employment support service for adults with Down's Syndrome. What sets this programme apart is its provision of training for both job seekers and prospective employers. In our article you can read about 6 young adults who enjoy working part-time and being paid.
Many people with disabilities are making a valuable contribution in the world of work. Many more would love to join them. We've been watching WorkFit from the outset. We're excited to see it gaining momentum and changing lives.
Down's Syndrome is an incurable genetic condition: an extra copy of Chromosome 21 in the cells of the body. Although the range is vast, everyone with Down's Syndrome has some degree of learning disability, and many also have a greater risk of various medical problems.
However, with appropriate education and support, people with Down's Syndrome can enjoy full and active lives.
